(H)onest Filming
With the (H)onest Filming Code, film commissions aim to promote a sustainable and respectful way of developing and filming, in which people, stories, nature, and culture of all involved regions are central.
The Code is explicitly not intended to judge the content of productions, but to create optimal mutual involvement and collaboration that ultimately strengthens the productions and shows respect for a region.
The code has 5 core values:
-
Working together with the community
-
Respect for stories, language, culture, and heritage
-
Sustainability and ecology
-
Use of local talent and facilities
-
Fair compensation and local talent development
The 5 core values that FVG promotes
Together with the community
Core value 1
Film productions are encouraged to involve the local community in the broadest sense as early as possible and to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome and safe.
Respect for stories, language, culture, and heritage
Core value 2
Productions are made with attention to and respect for the stories, languages, cultures, landscapes, and heritage of the regions that make up the Netherlands.
Sustainability and ecology
Core value 3
The code promotes socially and ecologically sustainable production practices that have a positive impact on the residents and nature of an area.
Use of local talent and facilities
Core value 4
Using local businesses, professionals, and facilities contributes to the economic growth of the regions and the professionalization of the national film industry.
Fair compensation and local talent development
Core value 5
Productions are encouraged to prioritize hiring and training local talent and professionals (not just PAs). All staff receive fair compensation.
